Welcome to Adult High School (AHS)
Your Future, Your Pace, Your Path — Learning for Life at AHS.
Whether you’re returning to complete your Ontario Secondary School Diploma, upgrading your skills for employment, preparing for an apprenticeship, or planning your path to college or university, we’re here to support your journey. At AHS, students aged 18 and older are welcomed into a full-time, semestered day school environment that is both inclusive and empowering.
Located in the heart of Ottawa, our school is easily accessible by public transit and offers a diverse range of courses that run Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Our classes are taught by a dedicated and knowledgeable staff who understand the unique challenges and responsibilities that adult students face.
At AHS, we take pride in our diverse student body. With approximately 1000 learners from a wide variety of educational and cultural backgrounds, our classrooms are vibrant spaces where lived experience meets academic growth. We recognize and value the personal, professional, and global perspectives our students bring — and we believe that education is most powerful when it reflects real life.
Student success is our number one priority. Whether your goal is to enter the workforce, begin an apprenticeship, or pursue post-secondary education, we provide the support you need to succeed. Our caring Student Services Department is here to help you develop a personalized educational plan, access community resources, and, where applicable, engage in the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process to receive credit for your previous academic or life experiences.
We also understand that adult learners often balance multiple responsibilities — work, family, and more. Our staff work collaboratively and compassionately to support you in managing these responsibilities while progressing toward your academic goals.
I encourage you to explore the rest of our website to learn more about what we offer — from academics and athletics to resources for newcomers to Canada. We are proud of the transformative role AHS plays in the lives of our students, and we hope to be a part of your educational journey.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school community.
Warm regards,
Shannon Adams
